The Week Ahead – Week Commencing 08 June 2026
Markets closed the week out with sentiment taking a dip after stronger-than-expected US employment data removed any hopes of a Fed interest rate cut in 2026, while the situation in the Middle East remains in the balance.
The Week Ahead is relatively quiet in terms of tier 1 risk events; however, the ones that are scheduled are significant, with two major central banks set to make interest rate calls, while on the data front, we have major inflation numbers out of the US that could put a tightening cycle on the Fed’s agenda rather than the promised cuts that were being priced in a few months ago.
Once again, though, expect geopolitical updates to continue to dominate short-term moves as the week progresses, with updates on the Middle East the major focus.
Here is our usual day-by-day breakdown of the major risk events this week:
Monday
It is a quiet start to the calendar week on Monday, with very little scheduled to move markets across all three trading sessions. Australian markets are on holiday, which may affect liquidity on the open; however, most traders are expecting another busy day as markets react to Friday’s Non-Farm update and any fresh geopolitical updates from the weekend.
Tuesday
Tuesday also has very little on the calendar to move the dial across the trading sessions, with only tier 3 data scheduled for release.
Wednesday
It’s a similar story for the first two trading sessions on Wednesday before things pick up in the New York session. Key US CPI data is due out shortly after the open before attention then jumps north of the border for the Bank of Canada interest rate decision and updates. US Crude Oil inventory data is also due out later in the day.
Thursday
The Asian session is again quiet on Thursday; however, the European Central Bank’s interest rate decision is due to dominate focus during the London session later in the day, where a 25-basis-point hike is priced in. The New York session then sees the key US PPI numbers released alongside the Weekly Unemployment Claims data.
Friday
It’s a quiet calendar day to close out the week on Friday, with the UK GDP data the only tier 1 event scheduled. The New York session has the Preliminary University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment and Inflation Expectations scheduled; however, again expect geopolitical updates to have an influence moving into the weekend.Disclaimer:
